Economist - Return to the fold
Rosetta@home is a distributed computing project aimed at expanding our understanding of protein folding. Being able to predict the three dimensional structure of a protein based on its amino sequence is an important but unsolved problem in biology. What’s interesting is that in “fold it,” a video game created by Rosetta@home scientists where the goal is to fold proteins into their most stable configurations, many non-scientists found the correct configuration in less time than the computer.
